Gas leak procedure

 

Butane and propane can be highly dangerous.

If you can smell gas or there has been a gas leak

  1. Shut off the valve located in the galley
  2. Shut off the gas bottle valve
  3. Make sure the area is well vented  (to clear the gas open hatches and turn downwind to vent fresh air through the boat)
  4. NEVER LIGHT A MATCH OR USE ELECTRICAL SWITCHES
  5. Try the manual bilge pump to take the gas out of the bilges (gas is heavier than air and will sink to the bilges ,NEVER USE THE ELECTRICAL BILGE PUMP)
  6. Keep gas bottles in a locker which drains externally
  7. Do not use the cooker before you check meticulously the gas system.(gas hoses, valves, cooker, gas regulator)
