Mayday Procedure

(WHEN LIFE OR VESSEL ARE IN GRAVE AND IMMINENT DANGER )

if the VHF is a DSC "Digital Selective Calling " then there is a dedicated button for Mayday calls

• make sure radio is on
• lift cover and press DSC button until the countown finishes
• verify radio has switched to ch.16
• press and hold tranmit button
• Mayday , mayday , mayday
• This is yacht ( boat name ) , This is yacht ( boat name ) , This is yacht ( boat name )
• Mayday yacht ( boat name )
• ( give MMSI if fitted with DSC )
• My position is ( your position )
• ( give information about the condition of the boat ) ( ex. We are holed and sinking and require immediate assistance )
• ( give information about the crew ) ( ex.Six person on board )
• Over
• Release transmit button
• Wait 30 seconds - if no response , repeat MAYDAY call

Have all persons put on life jackets
